Ebon Run Printing & Distribution Network

Greetings Printers and/or Publishers,

This network bears the potential of rendering good profits for progressive-activist press owners and distributors while keeping the general progressive-minded community informed and active.

If you have a publishing company, you could have another publication to offer the public—AT NO COST to you. Besides your current publication, this would grant you another asset with which to accumulate further capital.

How It Will Work

I prepare each edition, burn it to CD-ROM, and send it to the printers. (I could also "beam" the contents by electronic means to printers able to receive it in such a manner.)

Printers should possess equipment capable of laser-printer quality and of printing on 11" X 17" sheets. They should also be able to fold the sheets into an 8-1/2" X 11" publication and saddle-stitch them--unless the distributors wish to perform this function. No trimming required. In the beginning, there will be 24 pages—six sheets with four pages each. It will be the printers’ or publishers’ responsibility to secure the disks or content so that no entity may sabotage or injure the integrity of the publication by altering the material. The printing period for each edition will end at the exact time the next edition arrives.

Distributors will be found (mainly MY job) interested in making money by finding advertisers. They may also include preprinted inserts for extra profit. The distributors will then present the completed ads in acceptable format to the printers. It will then be the responsibility of the distributors to circulate, or have circulated, all copies of each edition that they have printed. If they make enough money on advertisers, they could simply give the copies away. If they aren't satisfied economically, they could then sell the copies (recommended: 10 cents wholesale, 25 cents retail) to help supplement their income.

This project would also be a great opportunity for young teenagers, who could find paying subscribers and serve as paper carriers.

People and organizations who just want to help me get this publication out to the people can be distributors as well. If they have a social cause, they could each take an ad space, jointly fund the printing, and circulate the copies.

Printers can also be distributors and ad solicitors if they wish.

What Do I Get?

Besides getting my vital messages out to the Black and progressive community, I want just 5 cents per copy printed by the printers. The printers or publishers are to send me checks when they've accumulated feasible amounts. What do I plan on doing with the money? Besides securing a livelihood, my goals are to lower Ebon Run production and advertising costs as well as establish a Black-controlled industrial organization that will manufacture products—especially ecologically compatible and socially beneficial ones (green products)—and use the proceeds to maintain and establish social programs geared 50 percent toward Blacks and 50 percent toward the non-Black downtrodden.

Acceptable Ads

A final responsibility of the printers will be to ensure that no unacceptable ads are allowed in the bound publication. (Though, of course, they will not be able to police unbound inserts added after the printing and binding process has been performed.) There will be no alcohol or tobacco ads. Of course, nothing indecent, bigoted, and nothing that looks like a scam—no "$10,000 In One Week!" junk. I also don't want the "gangsta" culture promoted. Opportunity for Printers

I established a distribution network of organizations, religious institutions and businesses who each agreed to receive and circulate up to 100 copies per edition. (My goal is to have 100 distributors circulate 100 copies each.) I have found a printer offering me a low quote. However, if any printer/publisher can offer me a cheaper way out, they could receive the business asset that would be my patronage. Send me your quotes for printing and shipping 11" X 17" sheets in 10,000 quantities.

Also, if any printers are interested in soliciting advertisers who will fund the printing and shipping of the copies to the distribution network, I'll allow that as well--so long as I still receive my 5¢ per copy. (All ads must be approved by me.) With that in mind, printers wishing to participate in this and who wish to expand the distribution network could pursue said expansion and make as much money as the distribution network can generate.
